Gear you need to start Feeder fishing.
Feeder fishing is a very effective technique for catching white fish. It is like still fishing at the bottom which can be practiced at a long distance. The theory is to have your baiting ready by the hook thanks to a cage filled with bait. Discover here how best to begin fishing with this technique.
THE ROD
This is an essential part of this type of fishing you must be able to easily detect nibbles as fish are sometimes small and their nibbles discrete for this, fishing rods designed for feeder fishing have an extremely soft tip to forward even the smallest tremor.
When used, you must used a rod between 2m70,(8 Ft) and 3m90,(13 Ft) in length which will enable you to cast your rigging further and fight with great fish. A 2m70 fishing rod is perfect for fishing from shorter distances and spots from obstructed banks. The larger the rod, the further you can cast, and the better suited it is for fishing in the current.
The rods also differ in terms of their casting weight depending on the weight of the feeder you use. It's up to you to choose the rod which is better suited for your fishing spot.
Use Light (Benzar Competition Feeder), Medium rods (Benzar Allround Feeder, Carp Expert Elite Feeder)to cast short and medium distances. Use Heavy (Benzar No Limit Feeder, Benzar Method Feeder, Carp Expert Method Feeder,Carp Expert Pro Power Feeder.)
THE REEL
For feeder fishing, a standard reel will be perfectly adequate. Choose a size to match the parameters of the Rod you wish to use. Light rods recommended between 3500 - 5000 Reels, for Medium use 5000 - 6500 and for Heavy 6000 and up. Line retrieve per crank is between 65cm and 1.5m. The greater the line retrieve per crank, the quicker you can reel in your rigging or the fish.
THE FISHING LINE
It is recommended to use a nylon fishing line with a slight stretch to feel the gentlest of nibbles. Depending on the weight of your rigging, use a nylon fishing line with 20 to 40 mm . If you would like to have a more resistant and fine fishing line, use a braided line between 18 to 25 mm. Braided lines are good as they enable you to feel even the most subtle of nibbles.
THE FEEDER
There are several types of feeder cages available depending on your needs.
THE RIB CAGE FEEDER
The method is connected to the line and slides on it ,allows you to easily stock your Groundbait and quickly release it in midwater or on the bottom .
THE CLASSIC FEEDER
The Classic Feeder is open on two sides and allows the bait to be well retained during casting as well as letting it spread quickly. This is the most common used in Tournaments.
THE METHOD FEEDER
The Method Feeder is particularly suitable for fishing with Groundbait and Micro Pellets for short and medium distances . It's argued by many to be the most successful fishing method for Carp.
BAIT
There are ready-made baits which are suitable for feeder fishing. They are sticky enough to stay in the feeder during casting. They also disperse easily, creating a cloud of bait around the cage making it as attractive as possible.
